Wooden Toy Vehicle

Wood I: Fall 2014: Wooden Vehicle (Bent Laminations)

The objective for the wooden vehicle project was to create a functional vehicle with bent laminations of two different curvatures.

The objective for design of the wooden vehicle was one which is simple yet dynamic in form.
From a collection of curve sketches, two curvatures were selected. One bent lamination was cut into fours and three of the pieces were used for the final product.

The wood vehicle project was created through the bent lamination process with ash wood veneer sheets.
Supporting blocks were made with cherry wood to serve both as a functional connecting block and an aesthetic element.

Wheels are made on the lathe with lathe turning tools such as chisels and gauges.
Then the wheels are attached by dowels, and the dowels are put through holes which are drilled in the bottom supporting blocks.
